Apparently, Everything Is Bigger In Texas…Including the Architectural Turds of America…Cox Funeral Home, 1305 13th Street, Huntsville, Texas
Apparently, Everything Is Bigger In Texas…Including the Architectural Turds of America…Cox Funeral Home, 1305 13th Street, Huntsville, Texas
Sorry Tejas, ya’ll aren’t being tag teamed by the taste police, but, we must say shame shame on you…yet another submission from one of our curatorial informants…
No, actually, the Architectural Turds of America is a nation wide survey [...]
Queen Anne Denounced in Downtown Houston, 2011 Leeland Avenue, Houston, Texas
Queen Anne Denounced in Downtown Houston, 2011 Leeland Avenue, Houston, Texas
On the southeast fringe of Downtown Houston, Texas, we see yet another example of the impropriety that existed in the mid twentieth century. Formerly a middle class residential neighborhood of very respectable late nineteenth and early twentieth century detached houses, the area was industrialized, in part, [...]
Avant Guard Flamboyance in a Plastic House, Fremont, Ohio
Flamboyant Plastic House, Fremont, Ohio
Rather off the beat and path is a quaint little town in the mid-western state of Ohio–Fremont. Fortunately, for Fremont, it is located just off the turnpike so that if your driving from Cleveland to Toledo or Detroit or perhaps vice versa, you might have a moment to take in the local [...]
The Amish Barn, Old Town Spring, Texas
Amidst the charm of Old Town Spring are several buildings that not only do not contribute to the historic charm, but largely detract from the integrity of the built environment. The Amish Barn at Old Town Spring is definitely one of these buildings. It is a premier TURD of Old Town Spring.
When we think about the human being [...]
Hells, Bells, Who’s Wishing the Building Well? – The Wishing Well Restaurant, Philadelphia, Pa
The Wishing Well is a prominently disgusting example of how ignorant, tasteless people destroy the built environment. Note the plastic siding covering the oracle window. Rather than one window in the center there would have been three at each level. Who needs a window when you can have the view of a plastic panel? We [...]
Fuck You John Zink… Former Newton Theatre, Brookland, NE DC
We say “Fuck You John Zink” due to the nasty contemporary, “wanna be” movie theatre-esque detail above the CVS sign that basically looks like a fist with a prominent middle finder. The former Newton Theatre building is situated at 3601 12th Street (and Newton Street), NE, Washington, DC.
Designed in the Streamline Modern Style, The Newton [...]
Jewish or Pooish? WTF?
Is this building a synagogue or a Pig Pin? Perhaps its a former synagogue operating piggy back rides for the immobile… Either Way, we were mystified by this architectural turd. The main operations of Phase Piggy Back, Inc., a Harlem-based not-for-profit, is housed in this horrible hole within walking distance from both Riverside Drive/Park and Jackie Robinson Park on [...]
Sensational Symbolism…Sensations, Littlestown, Pennsylvania
We enjoy the most likely unintentional symbolism of the triangular entrance to Sensations, a gentleman’s club in rural Pennsylvania at 880 Hanover Pike near Littlestown. While this building is U-G-L-Y, we can’t help but enjoy the signage, blood red doors, and, particularly, the triangular Mecca-esque entrance!
We give this place a full flame for its absurdity…

the Bad Taste of Jack Cassel, M.D. doesn’t stop at the office door…
So “the doc” won’t treat Obama supporters and, apparently, nor will he do a thing to make his place of business more attractive. We should have known that if this is how he treats people, he’d certainly take no time in beautifying his neighborhood.
This was probably a cute pre-war residence at one time, but apparently [...]
