Circa 1920, Josephine Berliner, the wife of the eminent engineer, inventor, and pilot--Henry Berliner, poses with the new family obsession--the helicopter or then better known as the Gyrocopter. She is expensively dressed in the fashions of the 1920s, not so typically situated, however.

    JUST A BEATIFUL PICTURE.

Thank you so much for posting this. Josephine Mitchell Berliner was my grandmother, and I had never seen this photo. She’s even more beautiful than I remember.

It was part of the collections donated by Henry Berliner to the Air and Space Museum, which of course they make super difficult to access…

  4. Moritz Berliner was my great-grandfather (married to Johana/Jenny Cassirer). Moritz was born in 1844-1938 at the age of 94. They had 6 children and in the early years lived in Upper Silesia, later moving to Breslau, Germany.

As I am searching and reading family information, I believe Emile might be related and possibly Moritz’ brother who moved to Washington, DC at age 19.

I am working on our family genealogy and would appreciate hearing back from someone!!

    Thank you!
