Absurd Mansard: A Decorated Cornice in New York City
In the 19th Century, there was an advent of something unknown: the abundance of goods. The invention of machinery used to produce textiles inexpensively made it possible for buildings to be decorated with drapped fabrics as is seen in this delightful image. The tradition lives on in good ole’ New-York.
We breezed by this flame bag somewhere in the west teens (Manhattan). Perhaps this cornice is always treated in such a fashion, but it’s also possible that these decorations were in honor of the gay pride festivities. Eitherway, we love it. Four flames for whoever the hell….
